On April 3, 1973, Dr. Martin Cooper, the lead engineer of the Motorola team has developed the first portable device. In that period there were two important brands who were trying to launch on the cell phone market the first portable device. Motorola and Bell Labs were in a true competition in order to offer to the world the first portable device. Although Bell Labs were the first ones which proposed the idea of a cellular system in 1947, was Martin Cooper, the lead engineer of Motorola team who offered to the world the first portable device.

So, Martin Cooper is not just the cell phone’s inventor but also the one who made the first call. On April 3, 1973 Dr. Martin Cooper made its first call in front of all the reporters. But I bet you wouldn’t guess who did he call? He called his rival, Joe Engel from Bell Labs. The legend says that Joe Engel started crying when he has heard that Martin Cooper has beaten him. Although the first call was made on April 3, 1973 it had to pass ten more years in order to receive the FCC acceptance.

Motorola DynaTac was the first portable device which was launch on the cell phone market. Although people weren’t satisfied by its design and it was a true technological invention. In time technology has advanced and it was able offering to the people more advanced cell phones. Their design and its technology improved and finally people had the cell phones they’ve always wanted to have. It’s true Motorola is a cell phone brand which will always remain in the cell phone’s history. Time has passed and many other cell phone companies appeared on the market like: Nokia, LG, Samsung, Sony Erickson and many others. Now, people have a large variety of cell phones which makes finding the perfect cell phone a piece of cake.
