Korean mobile phones
The South-Korean miracle did the trick with Samsung, one of the most important mobile phone producers. So, from an insignificant producer on the international markets, today, Samsungs occupies the second place in the top of the most important producers. There are voices who say that Samsung could even take the Nokia’s place on the market, if they continue in the same rhythm. Before ’95, Samsung was a producer of cheap and not so qualitative products. This year was a very important one for Samsung, because, since that particular moment Samsung has started to change its image. Now, Samsung is synonym with Style and innovation.
Although, Samsung isn’t, yet, abroad the leader, we can say that Samsung is leader in Korea. Samsung is very appreciated by the Koreans, 80% from the Koreans have one mobile phone. Abroad, Samsung has two important rivals, Nokia and Motorola. When the Korean mobile phones will exceed we could say they are the winners.
The principal target of Samsung mobile phones is to offer to its consumers the premium end-low products, which don’t cost more than $90. That means that in the near future, Samsung will provide only a few top models with GPS, MP3player or mobile browsers, and will provide mobile phones with an innovative design and colors which capture the buyer’s attention. Samsung wants to conquer all the markets they haven’t exploited till now and for this they’ve created special mobile phones. The Samsung mobile phone division is quite small if we compare it with Nokia or with Motorola, but they have important gain. While his rivals were losing important sum of money, Samsung’s profit was in a permanent advance, from a 7% to 13% profit.
Samsung’s initiative of penetrating markets with a weak power of buying and to compete with Nokia in USA could be considered an impediment in Samsung’s profit. It is very hard to be known as a producer of performed mobile phones, but also as the producer of cheap mobile phones. This combination couldn’t work. In South Korea things look good, but in North Korea things aren’t the same. Two years ago, having a cell phone could even cost your life. Apparently, the mobile phone was one of the biggest enemies of the communist North- Korean party and the ones who had one such mobile phone were in danger of being executed. Till 2004, there were two phone companies but they were shut down by their leader.
