Iphone 4g Battery Situation

The smartphone market loves the iPhone 4 and now has come to also embrace the iPhone 4S that comes with a brand new operating system, iOS 5, and some new hardware features that are extremely useful, but possibly a source of lower battery life. If you worry about iPhone 4S’s battery situation, you should accompany me in my journey to find out how the iPhone 4S does on this chapter in comparison with the other smartphones available on the market.

Apparently people were right to fear that the upgrades of the iPhone 4S will affect battery life, because just a week after its release the well-known iDevice proved that it has a battery-drain problem caused by the location services made available under iOS 5. However, Apple acknowledged the situation almost instantly and released version 5.0.1 of its mobile operating system in order to make sure that battery issues won’t cripple the user experience of iPhone 4S owners.

Even if this battery issue was revealed you shouldn’t dismiss the iPhone 4S. That’s because this elegant iDevice is not the only high-performance smartphone released on the market that has a few battery issues. Even the HTC ThunderBolt and the Samsung Charge had problems with battery draining. Their trigger was 4G connectivity that was one of the main features that made them appealing. That means you shouldn’t be hasty and judgmental and give Apple a chance to take care of the issue properly.

Despite this battery drain issue, the iPhone 4S didn’t do bad in tests. Those who have had the pleasure to perform tests used a 720p HD animate video that they played over and over again until the battery gave out. This test revealed that the iPhone 4S’s battery can stand such “torture” for around 6 hours and 14 minutes. The phones that did better than it are the Samsung Epic Touch 4G or Samsung Galaxy S II that lasted 7 hours and 22 minutes and the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide that was able to provide 6 hours and 33 minutes of continuous playback. It seems the iPhone 4S didn’t do that bad, because most of the HTC, LG and Motorola smartphones available on the market followed it closely.

These being said, I think we can accurately say that the iPhone 4S’s battery is pretty good and reliable. Not to mention that you have plenty of options available if you want to preserve battery life. The main options you should consider are lowering screen brightness, purchasing an external battery, using GPS moderately and turning off location services. However, as smartphone hardware improves, battery life becomes an issue waiting for solutions.
